Glory to God

Glory to God in the highest,
and peace to His people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King,
Almighty God and Father,
we worship You, we give You thanks,
we praise You for Your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ,
only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
You take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
You are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.
For You alone are the Holy One,
You alone are the Lord,
You alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of the Father.

Amen.

The background of Glory to God

The Glory to God is a hymn of praise and worship that has been sung by Christians for centuries. Its origins can be traced back to the early Church, where it was used as part of the liturgy.

In the fourth century, Saint Ambrose, the bishop of Milan, is said to have introduced the Glory to God into the liturgy. It became a popular hymn in the Catholic Church and was used in various forms of worship, including the Mass and the Divine Office.

The Glory to God was originally written in Latin, which was the language of the Church in the Middle Ages. Over time, it was translated into various languages, including English, Spanish, and French.

In the 1960s, the Catholic Church revised its liturgy, and the Glory to God was included as part of the new Mass texts. It is now part of the Gloria, which is recited or sung during Mass as part of the liturgy of the word.

The Glory to God remains an important part of Catholic tradition, and it continues to be a hymn of praise and worship recited by Catholics around the world. It is a reminder of the greatness of God and the glory that is due to Him.
